Aid climbing and Big Wall climbing techniques

​Climbing a big wall can be a lifetime goal, with a lot of training and practicing during that journey. A lot of climbing techniques and logistics are involved during such an endeavor and we offer you the knowledge necessary to reach that dream. From the use of basic aiders to how to follow a pendulum, we will get you in the right track.
We offer 2 different programs depending of your needs.

Level I:  Basic Aid climbing

This is a one day program where you can learn the basics of aid climbing. Some of the topics and techniques that we teach are:
  • how to use and progress with one or two aiders
  • how to clip into the piece of protection
  • how to test the piece of protection
  • how to use the fifi hook and daisy chains
  • how to progress in overhand and roofs with aiders
  • how to place basic clean protection

Place: Grand Junction area
Ratio: 1:3 (in a group of 3 climbers we may use an additional guide to facilitate the climb, always depending of the group dynamics)
Price: $300.00 for one person, $170.00 for the second climber and $150.00 for the third climber. Special rates for groups and 20% discount for veterans, active duty personal and law enforcement.
What we provide: IFMGA/AMGA certified mountain guide, climbing equipment, ropes, harnesses, climbing shoes, helmets, first aid, guiding permits.
What we don’t provide: water, snacks, personal transportation, and personal medical insurance
Season: March to November. We will be able to climb in a mild winter, depending of the snow and temperatures.
Prerequisites: basic climbing is recommended but not mandatory

Level II:  Advance Aid climbing and Big Wall techniques

​This is a full 2 day program where you can learn all the techniques necessary to progress on a big wall. We recommend that you have some previous climbing skills in both, free and aid climbing. Some of the topics and techniques that we teach you are:
  • Review the use of one and two aiders
  • Review of testing the piece of protection
  • How to place clean protection
  • How to place pitons and copper heads
  • How to place bolts
  • How to place and progress with hooks
  • How to use the mechanical ascenders
  • How to make a pendulum
  • How to follow a pendulum
  • How to fix rope lines
  • How to haul a bag
  • How to descend with a haul bag
