iCE cLIMBING

​When the winter arrives, Summit Ridge Guides can offer you ice climbing guide and instruction for all levels of experience. From the frozen waterfalls of the Colorado National Monument to the farming ice of Ouray, we will find the perfect ice climbing adventure for you. We will teach you how to progress safety and learn the proper techniques necessary to climb ice, under the supervision of your IFMGA mountain guide. The experience will be unforgettable and the instruction superb.

Depending of your level of skills and knowledge of ice climbing, we can guide you in the right direction, from introduction of ice climbing techniques to the art of leading ice. Some of the topics and techniques that we will teach you are:
  • Ice climbing progression techniques
  • Descending single and double rope on ice
  • Placing screws for leading
  • Leading techniques on ice
  • Building anchors and belay stations for multi-pitch routes
  • Building natural anchors
  • Building anchors for rappelling​
Place: Grand Junction area or Ouray
Ratio: 1:3 (in a group of 3 climbers we may use an additional guide to facilitate the climb, always depending of the group dynamics)
Price: $350.00 for one person, $170.00 for the second climber and $150.00 for the third climber. Special rates for groups and 20% discount for veterans, active duty personal and law enforcement. 
What we provide: IFMGA/AMGA certified mountain guide, climbing equipment, ropes, harnesses, crampons, ice climbing boots, ice tools, helmets, first aid, guiding permits.
What we don’t provide: water, snacks, personal transportation, and personal medical insurance.
Season:  December to April.
Prerequisites: None.
​Equipment list:
  • Boots (you can bring your own, plastic or leather)
  • Synthetic or wool socks
  • Long Underwear synthetic or wool bottoms
  • Softshell or Gore-Tex  shell pants
  • Synthetic or wool first layer top
  • Fleece or wool second layer top
  • Softshell or Gore-Tex third layer jacket.
  • Synthetic or down belay jacket
  • Lightweight gloves
  • Warm gloves
  • Synthetic or wool hat
  • Medium sized backpack (about 30-40 liters)
  • Sunglasses and sunscreen
  • Water and thermos (at least 2 liters of water)
  • Food and snacks
  • Camera (optional)

WE WORK AND GUIDE UNDER THE PERMITS OF THE BLM, NATIONAL FOREST, NATIONAL PARK SERVICES
​AND THE WESTERN SLOPE CLIMBERS COALITION.
